Eternal Investments

5 minutes read.

Food for thought:

If you knew there was an investment you could make right now that could give you a financial guarantee forever, would you not be willing to risk any and everything to make that investment?

Whilst there is an actual investment like that called, perpetual bonds, that would not be our focus in this blog.

What is a Bond?

‘A bond is an investment security where an investor lends money to a company or a government for a set period, in exchange for regular interest payments’ (Napoletano and Curry, 2020).

What are Perpetual Bonds?

A perpetual bond, also known as ‘perp’ or ‘consol bonds’, has a steady stream of interest payment forever without a set maturity date (Chen, 2020).

The issuers of these bonds are not forced to repay the bond purchaser’s principal amount. The principal amount is the initial amount that was paid to the issuer.

For example, if you invested $400 in a perpetual bond, if anything happens and your interest is no longer guaranteed, the issuer must not repay your principal amount.

This essentially means that the bonds are not redeemable i.e. they can’t be saved. So once an investment has been made into a perpetual bond, there is no looking back. This is exactly what it should be like when we become born again.

Where is the phrase ‘Born Again’ from?

The first time this phrase was mentioned in the bible was in John 3:3. When Jesus was speaking to a seasoned Pharisee called Nicodemus. Nicodemus was very much inquisitive about the miracles that Jesus had been doing, so he went to speak with him about it. Jesus interestingly answered his question with a statement,” Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” John 3:3b.

Nicodemus was surely taken aback. He had never heard of the concept before, so he went on to ask Jesus if he should go back to his mother’s womb.

Essentially, what Jesus said was, despite Nicodemus’ years of knowledge and experience as the ruler of the Jews, his good works, acts of service, and reputation on earth, do not serve as the required qualification to enter God's kingdom.

What does being 'Born Again' mean?

The phrase tells you that we were once alive, then we died and we need to be reborn. In Genesis 2:16-17, God warned Adam and Eve that once they eat the forbidden fruit, they will die.

John 4:24 says that ‘God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and truth.’ This means that God was communicating to Adam and Eve through their spirit man. What He meant when He said they will die was that they would be separated from that spiritual relationship with Him. Because they disobeyed Him, they were separated from Him and because we are born from them, we are all born into sin (Psalm 51:5).

God in His infinite mercy orchestrated a redemption plan for mankind. He sent his only son, Jesus, to die as an atonement for our sins to reconnect us with Him.

So, being born again is when you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and you repent from all your sins. Immediately you become born again, you become an heir of the father, adopted into His family, and a rightful recipient of eternal life (Romans 8:17).

Becoming born again is like the deposit payment you make for a perpetual bond. Without an initial bond payment for a perpetual bond, one cannot expect to receive interest payments. Likewise, one cannot expect to enter the kingdom of God or fulfill his God-given destiny without being born again.

When you become born again, you’re sold out to Christ. You can’t give your life to Christ and take it back and expect all the benefits that come with being a child of God to follow you. This is in line with what Jesus said in Luke 9:62, “No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” When you become born again, you live for Christ (Philippians 1:21-26).

This doesn’t mean that mistakes can’t be made. The first few times you tried to read, you probably didn’t get everything right, but you didn’t give up and that’s why you can read this blog today. Immediately you become born again, the Holy Spirit comes to live inside of you. Alongside the many things He does, He testifies and confirms that we are a children of God and helps us with our weaknesses (Romans 8:26). So, you need not worry, because once you surrender to God, ‘He works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure’ (Philippians 2:13).

Being born again is the greatest investment with the highest return on capital a person can make.

How to Become 'Born Again'

1 John 1:9 says ‘If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

The first step is to ask for forgiveness. Because we are all born of Adam and Eve who sinned, we are all sinners. So even if you have committed the greatest sin on earth, once you ask for forgiveness you will be forgiven.  I John 1:8 says, ‘If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.' God knows that you are not a sinner because you sin, but you sin because you are a sinner.

Romans 10:9 says, ‘If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.’

The next step after asking for forgiveness is accepting Jesus into your life and declaring that He is Lord.

If you’re interested in becoming born again, please say this prayer aloud wherever you are;

"Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe you died and rose from the dead to save me. I repent from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior. Amen."

💃💃💃💃 WOOOHUUUU!!!!!!

If you just said that prayer, then I’m so excited for you!! You officially have the first-class ticket to an amazing ride of the goodness of God with a sure guarantee of eternal life in heaven!

Congratulations.
